Getting Ready for the Journey

We are getting ready for our Bible in 90 Day journey!  Remember to order your Bibles now to be ready.

MCC-DC is embarking on its 5th journey in reading the Bible in 90 Days.  For those taking this journey, this experience will open the Bible up in a way that is different than other Bible studies.  The goal is to read every word of the Bible from beginning to end – without skipping.

How is this helpful?  In traditional Bible studies, sermons, and workshops, participants delve deeper into the meaning of specific passages, stories or themes.  Reading the entire Bible cover-to-cover, provides context to all of this. Seeing the progression of the stories as they unfold, reading about people in the Bible who may rarely, if ever, be the subject of a sermon or Bible study, opens a new perspective on the meaning of Biblical stories and passages and can open a new perspective and relationship with God.

All participants are strongly encouraged to order the official Bible in 90 Days Bible.  The Bible is especially formatted to be 12-pages of reading a day.  We have found participants are more likely to complete the journey with this Bible.  This Bible can also be purchased as an eBook or audiobook.

Some key tips:

Get into a Routine -- Find a time each day (morning, lunch, night), to complete the daily reading – get into a routine.  The hardest time is usually the first week, but once you get into a routine and see how fast and far you are moving, it will become easier.

DO NOT SKIP – Do not skip anything.  You do not want to get to the end and say you read everything, except…  There may be hard names and words but you are reading to yourself so do not stress.  Even if you fall behind, do not skip ahead.  Try to find extra time to catch up or add a few pages a day to your reading until you are caught up.

DO NOT LINGER – Do not fall into the trap of lingering.  Yes there will be times you want to reflect, research or meditate on a particular story or passage.  If this happens, take note and finish the reading for the day first and, if you have time, go back.

Attend weekly meetings – whether in person or by phone, try to attend the weekly meetings.  These are opportunities for everyone to share their questions and thoughts and also help to encourage one another in the reading.

Don’t Stress – just read.

  1. I can't believe it is officially January 3, 2017 I have received my NIV Bible in 90 DAYS and dare not break the shrink wrap without a plan for how I shall keep this commitment to read 12 pages a day for the next ninety.

I want to pick a time daily to read my 12 pages. Of course I don't even know how long it will take me to read it, digest it and write down a few notes. I am tempted to read it when I go to be each night. This is an uncharacteristically poor reading time for me as it competes with the worries of the day, sleep and HGTV, but perhaps this will all change.

What time are we agreeing to meet on Wednesdays. I have invited my literary non church going friends to join us for the conference call? Nothing like a rainy day to crack open a good book full of poetry, metaphor and intrigue

  2. We will meet weekly at 7pm on Wednesdays starting on January 11th. The reading starts on the 12th. Just try different times and see what works best for you and then stick with it.
